This year Western States Propane held a food and toy drive for The City of Winnemucca Humboldt County Animal Control Center to collect donations for animals in need. The drive was very successful and with the help of the community we were able to donate an abundant supply of food, toys, $400 dollars in cash donations, and various other supplies to the Animal Control Center.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated, and congratulate the winner of the gift basket, Cheri Gaines!!

Elko, December 6th, 2017: For the second year in a row, Western States Propane has partnered with Communities In Schools to support the children of our community. Last year, Western States Propane employees worked gathering donations of cold weather gear such as coats, hats and gloves for Communities In Schools. This year, Western States Propane sold raffle tickets for a free standing propane fire pit with the help of Communities in Schools and McKenna Hines a contestant of the Miss Elko County Scholarship Program. Raffle ticket sales totaled $1,333 and Western States Propane matched the funds raised and a grand total of $2,666 was donated to Communities in Schools on December 6th, 2017. Western States Propane’s donation is equivalent to 1,646 meals which will be distributed to local children during the month of December. Leslie Goicoecha, Program Coordinator for Communities In Schools of Northeastern Nevada, reported that 6,318 meals were distributed during the month of November in the local area. There is a great need for this program in our community and with the holidays just around the corner, thousands of meals will be needed for distribution.
The propane fire pit was donated by Kiva Energy out of Salt Lake City, Utah, a wholesale supply vendor which works closely with Western States Propane to bring propane into the local area. It was a great effort by all involved and I am very proud of everyone who participated and everyone who purchased raffle tickets, said’ Julie Kraus of Western States Propane. The leader of this program was Miranda A. Kraus of Western States Propane, “It is very important to our company and my family that we strive to give back to the community which has been so good to us over the last 24 years.” Miranda is the Marketing and Public Relations Representative for the company.
The winner of the fire pit is Jack Hicks.
Western States Propane employees had a fun time this month getting our Sales and Delivery trucks ready for the Parade of Lights. The theme this year was A Charlie Brown's Christmas and despite the rain the parade went off without a hitch.

Last year was a severe fire season for Elko, Spring Creek and surrounding areas. The Elko Fire Department and Spring Creek Volunteer Fire fighters worked round the clock at times to ensure our homes, family and property were safe.
The Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department serves a community of approximately 18,000 and they rely solely on donations to purchase the necessary items they need to fight fires. These items include: firefighting gear, wildland gear, tools, radios, pagers and other equipment.
In December of 2017, Western States Propane made a donation of $9,000 to the Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department to show our gratitude and support for this important organization. Miranda Kraus, Marketing and Public Relations Representative, stated “We are very grateful to have such dedicated individuals living and working in our community. In order to continue our dedication and commitment to our community, we wanted to insure this organization has the equipment necessary to keep them safe while they keep us safe.”
Brett Murphy, Chief, Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department accepted the donation by Western States Propane.
